Allentown, PADecember 11, 2024 − Downtown Allentown came alive last evening as residents gathered for a vibrant and engaging community event to help shape the future of the Lehigh Valley’s urban core. Hosted by the Allentown Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) and State Senator Nick Miller, the engagement marked a pivotal step in the strategic planning process for revitalizing downtown.

Held at the Baum School of Art, the evening saw participation from dozens of passionate Allentonians who shared their insights and ideas for the draft framework plan presented by Public Sphere Projects, the consultant engaged to help build the implementation plan. Attendees contributed in thoughtful discussions about how they navigate downtown, where they shop and play, and which areas should be prioritized for future investments.

“The turnout and the energy in the room was proof that there is demand for continued strategic place-making investment to be made in downtown Allentown,” said State Senator Nick Miller. “The feedback we received tonight will be instrumental in furthering a vision for downtown that truly reflects the values and aspirations of our community. We have heard continuous demand for small business support to bring the retail spaces to life, more live music, consistency on the food and restaurant front, and clean and safe green spaces.”

The forum, which followed months of public engagement involving nearly 2,000 survey responses and dozens of conversations, provided an opportunity for members of the community to input on specific pieces of the plan. Attendees enjoyed light refreshments and took part in fun intermissions featuring salsa dancing.

For those unable to attend, updates and opportunities to provide additional feedback will be found via the Office of Senator Nick Miller’s social media pages.
