April 7, 2025 – Sen. Nick Miller (D-Lehigh/Northampton) announced that Northampton Borough will receive $1 million via a District Development Grant from the Main Street Matters program to revitalize the former Cement Bank Building on Main St. into mixed-use.
“Revitalizing vacant and underutilized buildings is essential to better serve residents, strengthen our communities, and address the need for housing in the Lehigh Valley. Transforming the vacant Cement Bank property is exactly the type of revitalization that Main St. Matters was designed to champion,” said Miller. “The additional housing and retail space will further add to the welcoming core of Northampton’s Main Street.”

With such a storied, anchor structure as the ‘Cement National Bank’, we’re excited to start the revitalization this historic building deserves,” said Mayor Tony Pristash. “We thank Governor Shapiro, PADCED, our state legislators, Senator Nick Miller and Rep. Zach Mako, and the Northampton Borough Council, for investing in Northampton’s Main Street and those considering Northampton for their business. With this $1 million investment, Northampton Borough’s former Cement Bank Building will be renovated and restored into a mixed-use development, featuring affordable housing with 12 apartments on the upper two stories– including ADA-accessible units and a 7,000 sq. ft. first floor commercial space.
