Noviembre 13, 2024 — Today, Sen. Nick Miller, 29, (D-Lehigh/Northampton) was elected chair of the Pennsylvania Senate Policy Committee, becoming the youngest member in history to hold a leadership position in the state Senate.
“I’m honored to have been elected into leadership for the upcoming session,” said Miller. “I look forward to elevating the legislative priorities of our caucus and working alongside my colleagues to build coalitions across the commonwealth on issues that truly matter to Pennsylvanians.”
The Senate Democratic Policy Committee is responsible for shaping and advancing a forward-looking policy agenda for the caucus. As chair, Miller will lead hearings across the commonwealth to develop legislation addressing key issues affecting Pennsylvania residents.
Miller continued, “Representing a district that reflects Pennsylvania’s diversity—urban, suburban, and rural communities—I understand how vital it is to craft policies that reach every resident. Since taking office, I’ve championed impactful initiatives, including historic investments in underfunded school districts through the Basic Education Funding Commission, co-sponsoring PA SITES to transform blighted commercial sites into vibrant manufacturing hubs and expanding the Neighborhood Assistance Program to encourage business investment in our communities.”
Over the past two years, Miller has served as chair of the Senate Finance Committee and has been a member of the Appropriations, Community, Economic & Recreational Development, Urban Affairs & Housing, and Policy Committees.
“I look forward to collaborating with the leadership team and I am ready to work with my colleagues in both the Senate and the House to deliver real results for the residents of the commonwealth,” said Miller.
Elected in 2022 at age 27, Miller was the youngest Pennsylvania senator in 135 years. His leadership appointment marks a new milestone in his commitment to serving Pennsylvania’s diverse communities.
