October  16, 2024 – Sen. Nick Miller (D-Lehigh/Northampton) announced today $12 million in funding for the Lehigh County Authority to replace approximately 1,000 lead service lines in the city of Allentown.

“Residents of the commonwealth deserve access to clean water,” said Miller. “The aging housing stock in the Lehigh Valley requires updates, and these funds will provide a critical investment in water infrastructure, ensuring improved water quality through the use of modern construction materials.”

This project will include third-party home inspections, material documentation, soft digs at a few locations, installation of new private-side service line and appurtenances and risk mitigation management measures.

“I am thankful to have a resource like PENNVEST that recognizes the importance of these critical infrastructure investments for Lehigh Valley residents, and I encourage other municipalities to apply to their programs,” added Miller.

PENNVEST has committed to a $6.3 million grant, along with a $5.7 million loan.
