Sept. 10, 2024 – Sen. Nick Miller and the Allentown Economic Development Corporation today encouraged Lehigh Valley residents to complete a survey on downtown Allentown.
The survey is now open. The senator urged community members from Allentown and the greater Lehigh Valley to weigh in on downtown Allentown’s future.
“We want to create a downtown that attracts visitors, supports local businesses and remains a thriving hub of activity and a desirable destination for residents and visitors alike,” added Miller. “Like many regions, our downtown struggled during the pandemic and is still recovering. I look forward to hearing from our community on what they want to see. The feedback received from this survey is just the beginning of public engagement for this endeavor and I encourage everyone to take the survey to give us feedback on what would benefit you in our downtown.”
Focus groups, individual interviews and community engagement events will be hosted over the course of the next several months to gather public input on a downtown activation plan. Implementation is expected to begin in early 2025.
“As an organization that has been a part of Allentown’s economic growth since 1979, AEDC is happy to partner in this initiative,” said AEDC Executive Director Scott Unger. “We look forward to learning more from the whole community as to how Allentown can offer a vibrant and active space where visitors, residents and businesses can collectively prosper.”
In addition to Sen. Miller and the AEDC, the advisory group includes the city of Allentown, the Allentown Chamber of Commerce, the City Center Group and Executive Director of the Downtown Allentown Community Development Initiative Don Bernhard.
Respondents to the survey will have the chance to win a $100 Visa gift card. The survey can be accessed here.
