ALLENTOWN, PA – October 23, 2026 − Senator Nick Miller (D-Lehigh/Northampton) presented a $500,000 state investment secured by his office to the Allentown School District on Friday, October 23, to support the multi-phase expansion and modernization of J. Birney Crum Stadium. This was presented through a check presentation at the Emmaus vs. William Allen High School varsity football game, where he was joined by the Allentown House Delegation.
Opened in 1948, J. Birney Crum Stadium has served generations of Allentown students, families and residents. As one of the region’s most recognizable athletic venues, the stadium hosts high school sporting events and brings the community together. However, after decades of use, significant improvements are needed to ensure the facility can continue serving students, athletes and spectators safely and effectively.
“As a former Allentown School Board member, I know firsthand that our students deserve athletic facilities that reflect their talent, hard work and potential,” said Senator Nick Miller. “By securing $500,000 in state funding, we are helping Allentown School District make critical improvements that will benefit student-athletes, provide a better experience for families and fans, and ensure this stadium continues to serve our community for generations to come. Our students deserve the resources and opportunities to succeed, both in the classroom and beyond, and I will continue advocating for investments that make that possible.”
The $500,000 investment will support a comprehensive improvement project that includes new construction and site development, demolition of existing buildings, new restroom and concession facilities, a field house, and two new scoreboards. These upgrades will help create a more modern, functional and welcoming environment for student-athletes, school staff, families and the thousands of community members who visit the stadium.
“We are deeply grateful to Senator Nick Miller and the Allentown House Delegation for securing this crucial $500,000 state investment in the expansion and modernization of J. Birney Crum Stadium,” said Dr. Carol D. Birks, Superintendent/Chief Executive Officer. “Our stadium is a cornerstone for the Allentown community, host to countless events each year that create memories for our student-athletes, families, staff and residents. These essential upgrades will ensure our students have access to top-tier facilities that foster athletic excellence, school pride, and community connection for years to come.”
Earlier this year, Miller announced more than $5.7 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) funding for transformative infrastructure, education, economic development and quality-of-life projects across the Lehigh Valley. The $500,000 investment for J. Birney Crum Stadium was among the projects supported through this funding.
