May 20, 2026 – Senator Miller announced today $828,676 in funding across the Lehigh Valley in Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) Local Share Account (LSA) grants for various projects in the 14th Senatorial District.
“These grants are critical investments in the safety, infrastructure, and quality of life of our communities,” said Senator Miller. “From providing lifesaving rescue tools in Hanover Township, upgrading essential municipal equipment in Walnutport Borough, improving parks and recreation spaces in Whitehall Township, and enhancing pedestrian safety infrastructure in Salisbury Township, these funds will ensure our municipalities have the resources they need to better serve our community members and build a stronger future for the Lehigh Valley.”
The LSA grants totaled $828,676 and were awarded during the CFA’s board meeting Wednesday morning. Awards were made through the LSA-Northampton and Lehigh and the LSA-Monroe programs, supporting economic development, community development, and public interest projects.
The awardees and a brief description of the projects are as follows:
LEHIGH COUNTY
- $83,086 to Pedestrian Safety Improvements at S Dauphin and E Emmaus in Salisbury Township to construct a new pedestrian crosswalk at South Dauphin and East Emmaus Streets in Salisbury Township, including new sidewalk and curbing, ADA curb ramps, and pedestrian warning systems to improve safety for students and the community. LSA funds will provide for engineering, construction, and administrative costs.
- $80,000 for lighting upgrades at multiple Whitehall Township parks to upgrade multiple parks across the Whitehall Township Recreation system such as West Catasauqua Playground, Stiles Playground, Cementon Park, and Hokendauqua Park. This includes installing new LED fixtures and updating wiring and infrastructure to improve safety, efficiency, and usability across recreation areas. LSA funds will cover construction costs.
NORTHAMPTON COUNTY
- $97,743 to purchase new hydraulic rescue tools for Hanover Township to provide new tools that will help volunteer firefighters perform rapid extrications in vehicle collisions, industrial accidents, structural collapses, and other emergencies requiring heavy cutting, spreading, or lifting.
- $89,500 for new mobile vehicle radios and a base station for the Lehigh Township Police Department as they transition to Northampton County’s new 800 MHz dispatch system. LSA funds will be used to purchase the equipment.
- $56,911 to purchase new equipment for the Walnutport Borough Police Department, including patrol car cameras, body cameras, and updated tasers. The integrated camera systems will provide seamless recordings, and replacing outdated tasers will improve safety and transparency. LSA funds will cover equipment costs.
- $28,456 to purchase a fully equipped police vehicle for Moore Township to support 24/7 service for its 9,400 residents and Chapman Borough. The township needs to maintain a reliable fleet of police SUVs due to high mileage, road conditions, and weather. LSA funds will cover the vehicle and equipment costs.
- $25,000 for epoxy floor coating in the Bushkill Township Volunteer Fire Company’s apparatus bays to provide a high performance, nonslip surface and improve safety. LSA funds will cover construction costs.
- $202,431 to purchase a new municipal dump truck for Walnutport Borough, replacing an aging vehicle that is costly to repair. The new truck, snowplow, and salt spreader will allow the borough to safely resume normal operations and handle adverse weather. LSA funds will cover equipment costs.
- $60,987 to purchase 18 dual-band P25‑capable portable radios for the Lehigh Township Police, supporting the transition from outdated analog to secure digital communications and improving interoperability, reliability, and emergency response. LSA funds will be used for equipment.
- $59,397 to purchase a new 2025 Chevy Tahoe PPV for the Northampton Borough Chief of Police to replace an aging vehicle and provide a fully equipped command unit for rapid response during emergencies. LSA funds will be used for the vehicle purchase.
- $45,165 for Moore Township Police Department to purchase and install upgraded police radios compliant with the Northampton County P25 system, ensuring reliable communication between officers, vehicles, and County dispatch for effective emergency response. LSA funds will cover equipment and installation.
