April 22, 2026 – The Old Allentown Preservation Association, together with Union and West End Cemetery, will hold a Tree Planting Day at 9:00 AM on Saturday, April 26 at 10th and Chew Streets, adding 44 new trees to the City of Allentown.
Senator Miller (D‑Lehigh/Northampton) secured $25,000 for the Old Allentown Preservation Association, supporting community growth and historic preservation. A portion of the grant will support the tree planting efforts this Saturday.
With Senator Miller’s support, Old Allentown Preservation Association leveraged the City’s Federal Tree Grant and double the amount of the initiative. This project is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (PA DCED), with support from the City of Allentown and the Allentown Shade Tree Commission.
“Planting new trees improves air quality and enhances the public health of our residents. This investment allows us to deliver lasting results for the residents of Old Allentown, one of the City’s most historic neighborhoods,” said Senator Miller. “I encourage residents to join the tree planting event to create a greener, more vibrant neighborhood that will benefit generations to come.”
“Old Allentown Preservation Association extends its sincere gratitude to Senator Nick Miller and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for their generous support of this important initiative. This investment reflects a shared commitment to strengthening our community through thoughtful stewardship of the urban landscape,” said Chris Brown, Old Allentown Preservation Association Board President. “The trees planted this weekend will yield lasting benefits for decades to come—enhancing the beauty of our Historic District, expanding the urban canopy, improving air quality, supporting stormwater management, and fostering natural habitat. Come rain or shine, this Saturday will mark a meaningful and visible transformation, as a significant portion of Old Allentown is renewed in celebration of Earth Day.”
Old Allentown Preservation Association’s mission is to support the Old Allentown Neighborhood and its residents in cooperation with partners to maximize resources for community growth, engagement and historic preservation.
