September 17, 2026 – Senator Nick Miller (D‑Lehigh/Northampton) hosted a free Spot the Scam event at the Zentz Community Center in Whitehall, bringing together more than 100 residents to learn how to recognize scams, prevent financial fraud and report suspicious activity.
Representatives from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Pennsylvania State Police, and AARP shared information and answer questions to attendees.
“This program is about giving residents the knowledge and confidence to recognize scams before they become victims,” said Senator Nick Miller. “Scammers often impersonate trusted government agencies and use fear or urgency to target people, especially our seniors.”
Recent scams in the Lehigh Valley have become increasingly sophisticated, making vigilance more important than ever. Scammers are impersonating trusted state and government agencies to create a false sense of urgency or legitimacy.
These include text messages claiming to be from the Pennsylvania Turnpike demanding payment for fake unpaid tolls, messages posing as MyChart from local health systems, and even a recent case where an elderly woman was coerced into handing over hundreds of thousands of dollars in gold bars after being falsely told her identity and Social Security number were compromised.
