Allentown, PA − January 30, 2025 − Following Governor Shapiro’s “Lightning Plan” Announcement, Senator Nick Miller, Democratic Policy Chair, Released the Following Statement:
“Governor Shapiro’s energy plan is a bold, commonsense approach that prioritizes affordability, reliability, and job creation—exactly what Pennsylvanians need. With energy consumption on the rise and increasing demands on our grid, the Lightning Plan takes necessary steps to modernize our infrastructure, streamline project approvals, and invest in diverse energy sources. This plan is in line with the discussions we had in last week’s Senate Democratic Policy Committee hearing, where experts underscored the urgent need for forward-thinking energy policies. By creating the RESET Board to accelerate energy projects, updating tax incentives to spur investment, and ensuring that 70% of PACER revenue goes directly to consumers, the Governor’s proposal strikes the right balance between economic growth and environmental responsibility. Additionally, the focus on Community Energy and Act 129 rebates will provide direct relief to households and small businesses struggling with rising costs. I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance policies that keep energy affordable, protect consumers, and position Pennsylvania as a leader in the energy economy of the future.”
